Twas’ on a hill faraway, on a rough, jagged cross that the agelong sacrifices of God’s children typified by lambs, goats and bulls met their great antitype, Jesus. There he died for your sins and mine.
He died so that if we confess our sins He can forgive us and change us so
that we act like the beings He created— sons and daughters of the Emperor
of the universe. On the Cross of Calvary, Jesus became our Passover. His shed
blood a sign that we are His. On the memorable night of their deliverance,
God told His people, “Strike the blood of a lamb sacrificed to Me on
the doorpost and the lintel of your house and when I see the blood I will
pass over you.” So the blood of the crucified Jesus on our hearts is
a sign that we belong to Him and in the judgement when He sees the blood,
He will pass over us and we will be spared the destruction of the wicked.
