TWELVE O'CLOCK APPOINTMENT

His meager salary had never been enough for all of their needs, not to mention savings for a rainy day, and now that he was without work, they were without food. Over the past few weeks, the little family had eaten what meager rations they had in the house, and the night before, they had eaten their last box of oatmeal. She looked at the splinters in the wooden floor and thought about the many times the children had come hopping to her on one foot because a splinter was embedded in the other. Mrs. Fulton shook her head in disgust. Something had to be done about all of this she thought ruefully.

Bounding out of bed that morning, Beverly had enthusiastically started to get ready for school. Mrs Fulton groaned and then tried to dissuade Beverly from going to school. Finally she had to tell her that there was no food in the house and no money with which to buy any. Beverly had looked at her sweetly and said, "Don't worry Mommy, Jesus will get us some food, if we pray." Now, Mrs. Fulton blinked her eyes, and a tear slowly traveled down her cheek. Maybe Jesus will help us if we pray. Slowly dropping to her knees, She prayed, "Dear Lord, please help us. What shall we do?"
