WAR ON EARTH

The early morning light filtering through long tapering needles of immense evergreen trees created a soft glow—multiple ribbons of iridescent light streaming to the forest floor gently lighting shadowy recesses of the darkened woodland. Leisurely strolling among the trees, Eve admired the scenery and basked in the joy of being alive. “Where was Adam? The extravagant play of lights and the luxuriant beauty of the foliage would delight my husband,” she thought. Turning swiftly, she decided to find him.

The meandering path that led to where she had last seen him twisted past the “Forbidden tree”. Nearing the tree, she lingered and glancing at the seemingly delicious fruit wondered, “What is wrong with the fruit on this tree? Why has God forbidden us its fruit?” Suddenly a smooth, melodious voice interrupted her early morning deliberations, “Has God not told you to eat of the fruit of every tree in the garden?”

Looking up in the direction of the mellifluous voice, Eve gazed on a beautiful winged serpent whose body gleamed with the radiance of multiple opalescent colors. “Strange, that a serpent should talk,” Eve thought wonderingly.
